Student Researcher

Monique Ulysses is currently completing her Master of Arts in the Department of History and Classical Studies at McGill University. After graduating from the University of Victoria in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History and Environmental Studies, she began working as a Research Associate in the Legal History research cluster. Monique is also currently working on her own Masters research, under the supervision of Dr. Shanon Fitzpatrick, that deals with the experiences of Mexican migrants to the United States during the years 1917-1932 and how they documented these experiences through music. Her research interests revolve around the oppression and subsequent resistance that racialized groups of peoples in the Americas experience and how gendered experiences of race and racism are represented in twentieth-century popular culture.
