Brian Owen, Associate University Librarian, SFU, chairs the Public History Website cluster. Owen brings significant administrative experience to the Steering Committee, in accordance with the suggestion of the SSHRC committee. He is Managing Director of the Public Knowledge Project, a multi-university initiative based at SFU and Stanford that develops (free) open source software and conducts research to improve the quality and reach of scholarly publishing. He was Project Manager of the Komagata Maru Incident Project, which created a digital historical research and teaching resource on Canada’s 1914 denial of entry of 376 passengers, most being immigrants from the Punjab in British India.
